Amelia Island and American Beach

The only beach in America that African Americans were welcomed in the segregated South!
American Beach, the only beach in Florida that welcomed black Americans and offered safe, secure overnight accommodations during Jim Crow segregation.
Picture
The firm’s Afro-American Pension Bureau purchased a 33-acre piece of property at the beach on nearby Amelia Island, partly as an investment but also to provide it as a resort area for black Floridians who had been excluded from other beaches.  Abraham Lincoln Lewis, the President of Afro-American Life, ironically named the area American Beach because he and others felt that in the United States beach access should be open to everyone.

Hoffman Planetarium

The Hoffman Planetarium is designed to be an engaging, interactive fulldome classroom for students. Powered by Starry Night, The Layered Earth and Zygote Body, the SciDome IQ2400 brings realtime space and earth science into the dome’s unique teaching environment. We will immerse students in the Planetarium’s interactive visual universe, and explore Earth’s 3D topography and layers in spectacular detail.

Starry Night
Picture
The Starry Night software allows us to display a realistic night sky from any location on Earth or any position in the solar system. We have the ability to display any date and time for thousands of years in the past or future. Starry Night provides an almost unequaled window to the observable universe.
The Layer Earth (TLE)
Picture
The Layered Earth is a detailed, comprehensive full dome visualization suite for earth science simulation. The Layered Earth’s three-dimensional world envisions our Earth as a whole system. Explore tectonic plate boundaries, mountain ranges, volcanoes, earthquakes, mineral resources, biomes and much, much more.

Zygote Body
Picture
Zygote Body is a powerful and intuitive 3D interactive simulation of the human body. The body is treated as an inter-related system of systems, each part of which can be individually selected, highlighted, hidden, made transparent, or annotated. Zygote Body includes high resolution tissue textures and 100s of individually identified body parts for precise, realistic visualization.
